Native to tropical Africa.
Positioning + Light Needs
A good balance of sun and shade is ideal for this dracaena, but avoid any direct sunlight. Although it grows quicker and better in bright light you'll also find it survives and grows well enough in low light conditions.
Very sensitive to fluoride in water! If using tap water to water the plant, first let the water sit overnight in a container for the fluoride gas to dissipate into the air. Alternatively, you can use filtered or bottled water. Water very modestly every week or so when the soil is dry to the touch. You only need keep the soil slightly damp, so never over water. Only needs monthly watering during the Winter months and the Dracaena needs a rest period in November and December, so no need to water then but keep an eye on it.
Ok in normal room temperature / humidity. Weekly or so misting in the warmer months to help me look my best.
Feed me once a month every Spring and Summer with diluted liquid fertiliser.
I'm a slow grower, so every 2-3 years is fine but keep your eye on the pot in case I become root bound.
Child / Pet Friendly
No sorry, I'm a little toxic.
Yep! I'm very effective at removing airborne toxins such as xylene, toluene, and benzene from the air.
Look out for
Brown tips on leaves: could be lack of humidity, exposure to a cold draught or under-watering. Brown leaves suggest too cold a room or too much watering.
Yellowing bottom leaves: remove any bottom leaves that go yellow, normally this is just the plant making way for new leaves.
Our size guide applies to both plants and planters.
The diameter range for each is based on the following:
Plants: the total nursery pot diameter (exterior measurement)
Planters: the opening diameter (interior measurement)
Plants: The stated height for any given plant is from the ground up, so will always include the nursery pot.
Plant & Planter Fit: To find a planter for your chosen plant, start with the corresponding size category, e.g. plant size S - go to Small (S) planters.
Example 1: your chosen plant size states M | 60 | 21. This is a Medium size (M) with a height of 60cm and a nursery pot diameter of 21cm.
Go to Planters size category: Medium [21 - 29cm].
You will need a minimum planter opening diameter size of 22cm.
Example 2: your chosen plant has a nursery pot diameter of 29cm. Though this falls within our Medium range (21-29cm), you will need to look at 30cm + planters - taking you into the Large Planters category [30 - 39cm].
