METALLIC PALM PROFILE
If you’re looking for a low maintenace, tough low light palm that is also an accent plant then look no further! Chamaedorea metallica is a lesser known relative of the Parlour palm. A slow grower so a good investment plant for those who love to reap the rewards over the long haul.
Origin
Native to Central America.
Positioning + Light Needs
Keep me in a bright room but out of direct sunlight; can also tolerate light shade.
Watering
Wait to water until the soil has dried down about half the soil depth. Thoroughly water the soil evenly making sure the soil and roots have all had a good drink. Do not overwater and ensure the plant has proper drainage to prevent root rot.
Misting
Every now and then. A little misting during much warmer months and when the central heating is on high would be good though with lukewarm water.
Feeding
Feed with a weak solution every few weeks during the growing season. Do not feed during the winter.
Re-potting
Palms generally dislike being removed from a pot. The best practice is to re-pot only when it has become pot bound and take good care of the roots whilst doing so.
Child / Pet Friendly
Yes I am!
Air purifying
Yes! A top houseplant for removing airborne toxins in your home.
Look out for
Brown leaf tips: an indication that the plant is not getting enough humidity.
